The Bayeux Tapestry is being shown at the British Museum soon, so it has been appearing to me online over and over. I ended up buying a nice book about it. I also copied the high resolution Wikimedia scans onto bayeux.thanks.fish.
I have an ongoing interest in embroidery, particularly digital embroidery, so it seemed worth bringing these things together. The first step is generating images in a Bayeux style. I finetuned a Flux model on the high res scans, and can now prompt for Bayeux-style images.
It is not perfect. Sometimes the outputs read as tufted or printed rather than embroidered. But it is a good place to start for designing images to be vectorised and then stitched, once we get our embroidery machine (hopefully soon).
I am planning some designs around space travel politics, as I make other plans towards putting some 2040 package into space. They say that by 2040 it will cost $273 a kg to put things into low earth orbit.
